Spanish Owl Countries

One of my favorite programs is teaching them about countries. The core of the program is the a World Traveler Packet that can be purchased at Teachers Pay Teachers. If you have any resources that you think would be great to add, please e-mail them to Marci@RegalLessons.com.

Here’s an Animaniacs song that names all the countries of the world with words so the kids can sing along.

African Countries

In 2010, the FIFA World Cup took place in South Africa. It had its own theme song by Shakira. It’s a fun song to have students color or dance to. Here’s the official video showing soccer players.

This is a great African dance tutorial video! I stop it at 4:30 though when she starts the PG-13 hip roll.

Egypt

Here is a video about Ancient Egypt. It talks about pyramids, mummies, the Nile River, and Pharaohs.

Kenya

This is a 3.5 minute video of Kenya nature including a bunch of animal clips.

Here is a 3.5 minute video about the monuments in urban areas.

Here is a video that introduces the wildlife and mountains of Kenya. I would end viewing it when she starts going over travel costs.

In Kenya, they speak Swahili. Swahili is the language spoken by Timon and Pumbaa in the Lion King when they sing Hakuna Matata. Here’s a fun video your kids can watch. It can also be played in the background while they color their Kenya booklets.

Tanzania

This is a 5.5 video pretty much everything your kids will need to know about Tanzania including people, animals, and sites.

In Tanzania, they speak Swahili. Swahili is the language spoken by Timon and Pumbaa in the Lion King when they sing Hakuna Matata. Here’s a fun video your kids can watch. It can also be played in the background while they color their Tanzania booklets.

Freddie Mercury was born in Tanzania when it was part of England, so you can also play some We Are the Champions or another Queen song that students might recognize.

Asian Countries

China

Here’s a two minute video about pandas.

This is the trailer to the cartoon version of Mulan.

This is a 2 minute video about the different sites in China.

I like to hunt for things made in China with my students when learning about China.

Israel

This is a five minute video from my trip to Jerusalem. It’s the Holy City, so it’s mostly religious sites.

This is a five minute video about the other parts of Israel: Tel Aviv, the West Bank, and Northern Israel.

The Philippines

Here’s a five minute video about the Philippines.

Japan

Here is a 4 minute video introducing Japan.

This is a 1.5 minute video about Japanese macaque monkeys bathing in hot springs.

Saudi Arabia

This is a three minute video that shows both the city and desert in Saudi Arabia.

South Korea

This four minute video talks about the 8 best places in South Korea.

European Countries

England

Here’s a video on the City of London.

This is the “Yellow Submarine” video by The Beatles.

This is a video about the Crown Jewels.

Germany

Ireland

This 2.5 minute video shows the different sites of Ireland.

This is a short cartoon about who St. Patrick is.

I made this 7 minute video from with footage from my trip to Ireland.

Here’s an hours worth of Irish music that you can play while your students are coloring.

This video shows how to do some basic Irish dance moves. I just teach the Side Step to my students (0:30 to 1:10).

I show my students my Waterford Crystal and have them look for clovers when learning about Ireland.

Italy

This is a 3 minute video about the sites of Italy.

This is an hour worth of Italian songs in Italian. It’s great to play while students are coloring the Italy pages.

It’s nice to bring mozzarella cheese to share with students when teaching about Italy.

The Netherlands

This 3 minute video shows how wooden shoes are made and discusses some uses.

This is 2 minute video about tulip bulb farmers in Holland.

I gave each of my students a tulip when we learned about this country. We also ate some Gouda cheese.

Poland

This is a 4 minute video about making pierogi and introduces some Polish words.

This is a 3 minute video about a tourist walking around Warsaw and what he sees.

Russia

Here is a 5 minute video about Russia.

Here’s a 2 minute video showing the Russian Nutcracker.

I have a vintage fur coat I like to wear when teaching about Russia because its so cold there!

Spain

Here’s a 2 minute video about Spain.

Here’s a 2 minute video showing a flamenco dancer playing castanets.

Sweden

This is a 3 minute video about Sweden. The last minute I could skip though because it just talks about travel expenses.

This is a 3 minute video about the IKEA store in Sweden.

This is a 5 minute video about the different animals in Sweden. It only has subtitles, so you’ll have to read them to your students.

I like to give my students Swedish fish when learning about Sweden.

Oceanian Countries

Australia

This 2.5 minute video shows different animals of Australia because that’s all your kids really care about! You might consider playing it at 1.5 speed.

This 3 minute video is about the natural landmarks in Australia.

New Zealand

This is a 2 minute video about the kiwi bird.

This is a 2 minute video about New Zealand that shows harvesting kiwis.
