I created this tailored packet for a special education student with level 3 autism who has typically exhibited a tendency to disengage during verbal interactions.
The curriculum commences with an introduction to distinguishing between questions and statements. Subsequently, there are targeted exercises to practice formulating questions. The packet further includes six assessments wherein the student listens to brief texts and endeavors to ask questions related to the content. Following each assessment is an intervention lesson explicitly crafted to guide the student in acquiring the skill of posing relevant questions. The overall focus is aligned with the first-grade speaking and listening standard SL.1.3.
SL.1.3: Ask and answer questions about what a speaker says in order to gather additional information or clarify something that is not understood.
